The Nigerian police confirmed on Monday that they were investigating an explosion outside Mogadishu barracks (formerly Abacha barracks ) in the centre of the capital Abuja and that one person was receiving medical attention in hospital after the incident.

IMAGENews reports that the police said in a statement that its Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit had been sent to the scene, which was cordoned off for analysis and to ensure the safety of commuters.

According to the Nigerian Army, the blast occurred at a bus stop outside its Mogadishu Barracks, which also houses members of the air force and navy.

The busy bus stop lies on the express highway connecting Abuja city centre and the sprawling ghettos of Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi and Masaka in neighboring Nasarawa state. Keep in touch with IMAGENews for more updates.
