Bayo Onanuga under fire for countering Kukah, and claiming Tinubu signed peace accord in 2023
The Special Assistant to President on information about strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga has countered the claim of the Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah that Mr Tinubu did not not sign the peace accord in the run down to the 2023 election.
In a post on his X handle monitored by IMAGE NEWS, Mr Onaniga refuted the respected cleric as follows: “Contrary to the claims by Bishop Kukah, President Tinubu signed the two peace accords preceding his election in 2023.
“The first accord, committing the candidates to a free and credible election in the country, was signed on September 29, 2022. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu.
“The second agreement, signed on February 23, 2023, was for the candidates to accept the election outcome.”
Here are some responses from X users to Onanuga:
Ben Nwogu @execuimerem refuted Onanuga’s claims saying Bishop Kukah was right that Tinubu dogged the peace accord signing. Nwogo responded “Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu. That means he didn’t signed the Peace accord”.
Mayowa Samuel @mayorlistic hit back at Onanuga saying, “Oga…stop twisting it. You just confirmed that Tinubu didn’t sign peace accord (The first one which was to commit to peace pre-election.). The one he later signed was to accept election results. The first one is just as important as the second one.”
Nsikan Emmanson Jr @emmansonJr took a jab at the presidential aide, “Where did Bishop Kukah lied. You just said that it is Kashim Shettima that signed the peace accord and not Tinubu. Tinubu only signed for the outcome of the election result. You just vindicated Bishop Kukah”.
Oluwafemi @blessingofgo retorted,
“What is excess of signing peace accord when the election results can be manipulated by @inecnigeria with technical glitches?”
