SENATE: Prince Ned Nwoko Beats Nwaoboshi, others to Clinch Delta North Seat
Proprietor of Sports University, Idumuje-Ugboko, Mr Ned Nwoko of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the Delta North Senatorial District seat by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Ned Nwoko, an international attorney garnered a total of 92,514 votes to beat his closest opponent, Mr Kennedy Kanma of the Labour Party (LP) who scored 86,121 votes.
The incumbent two-term Senator representing the District who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Peter Nwaoboshi came a distant third with 36,816 votes.
The results were announced on Monday evening by the Returning Officer, Dr Josephine Anene-Okeakwa at the INEC collation centre in the state capital, Asaba where the headquarters of Oshimili South Local Government Area is located.
The INEC returning officer said the PDP senatorial candidate, Nwoko won in Aniocha North, Ika North East, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani LGAs to emerge winner while the Labour Party won in Ika South, Aniocha South, Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Areas.
By trouncing incumbent Senator Nwaoboshi, Ned Nwoko has exacted his pound of flesh from the man who narrowly defeated him during the PDP senatorial primaries held in Asaba in 2018. Nwoko challenged the propriety of Nwaobosi’s candidature from the High Court through the Appeal Court to the Supreme Court where he lost the battle in 2019 on account of the case being statute barred.
Ned Nwoko will be returning to the National Assembly 20 years after representing Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003.
Married to star Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, Ned Nwoko by association, would certainly be viewed by many as a celebrity lawmaker in the Red Chambers.
