Ned Nwoko’s Deserved Anointing for Senate by Anioma Monarchs
SENATE: Ned Nwoko’s Deserved Anointing by Anioma Monarchs
By PRECIOUS OGBUENYI Esq
That popular Idumuje-Ugboko Prince, Hon (Dr) Ned Nwoko has been endorsed by 40 wise and revered Delta North Traditional Rulers to represent the good people of Anioma district in the Upper Federal Legislative Chambers (Senate) come 2023 is not a surprise to all unbiased political watchers and stakeholders in the district, Delta State and Nigeria as a whole. The former member of House of Representatives and husband of multi-talented actress Regina Daniels, has every now and then shown uncanny courage, zest and commitment as a leader who is ever ready not only to care but to stand for the people no matter the odds.
Philanthropist Ned Nwoko has indeed done so much for the people of Delta North Senatorial District and is poised to do even more. Only last week, Sports University of Nigeria (SUN), Idumuje-Ugboko in Delta North district was unveiled in Abuja as the fitting first sports university in Nigeria, West Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa. The founder and Chancellor of the epoch-making tertiary institution is no other than Ned Nwoko who is never scared of attempting the ‘impossible task’.
The Federal Government presented the billionaire hero of the London/Paris Clubs excess loan payment refunds with the operational licence of the heralded university on Tuesday thus clearing the coast for its commencement of academic cum sporting activities in the 2022/2023 educational session. With the coming into life of the university in Anioma land, the attention of Nigeria, Africa and the world would soon be riveted on Delta North as the ultimate destination for all children and youths in quest of sports and academic excellence.
Extraordinarily influential, connected, respected and adored across the country, Ned Nwoko cuts the visage of the ultimate Leviathan that his Anioma people need at this time. He was on the cusp of nicking victory in the 2019 senatorial contest but was only denied by unkind technicalities which made the people mourn for missing the services of their favourite illustrious son.
This time around, the people and their venerated monarchs appear to be in no mood to take chances. With their quivers on, they are determined to put their best of best forward starting with their prime son, Ned Nwoko in the ultimate law making chamber of the country – Senate.
And sartorially, Ned Nwoko’s popular senatorial quest received a boost, weekend, as traditional rulers from the entire Delta North Senatorial District (Anioma), picked him as their preferred aspirant ahead of the 2023 general elections.
This is contained in a communiqué issued following their deliberations at a meeting attended by over 40 traditional rulers at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien in the Delta State capital.
Reading the communiqué after the meeting, chaired by the Asagba, Vice Chairman of Delta North Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Abavo, Uche Irenuwa, and Secretary of the Council and Obi of Atuma-Iga Kingdom, Daniel Chukwuka Ogbodu, said they unanimously supported Nwoko as their sole aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the election.
The monarchs, who represent various communities in the nine local government areas that make up Delta North – Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North, Ika South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Oshimili North, Oshimili South and Ukwuani – said Nwoko had demonstrated admirable patriotism, commitment and passion for the peace, unity and development of Anioma land, Delta State and Nigeria.
In the 15-point communiqué, the monarchs said they were convinced the aspirant had brought pride and glory to Anioma people, especially with the establishment of Sports University of Nigeria in Idumuje -Ugboko, which was recently approved by the Federal Government and granted operational licence by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Sports University of Nigeria in Idumuje –Ugboko is rated as one of the biggest private investments in Delta State and is expected to create direct employment and other gainful ventures for thousands of Anioma sons and daughters, their neighbours and other people spread across the African continent and the world.
Fast forward May 29, 2023, can the good people of Anioma shout ‘Hurrah, welcome to the Red Chambers, our chosen Prince? Yes is the overwhelming response. Only God can say otherwise but virtually all indices point in the direction that the hand of the Creator is in favour of the Idumuje Ugboko-born prince who has surmounted several storms and cudgels on his odyssey to stardom.
