A non-governmental organization, HUT Foundation (Heart of Unity and Tolerance Foundation) has flagged off its visitation programme to primary and secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and neighbouring states to espouse the virtues of tolerance, non-discrimination and beauty of diversity. Speaking during the ceremony at JIP Heritage Academy, Jikwoyi Abuja, Thursday 20th of October, 202, the Executive Director of HUT Foundation, Barrister Precious Nkem Ogbuenyi said that rather than stand by and watch things deteriorate as they concern the peace, tolerance and unity of the country, members of the group have resolved to step out and begin to sensitize the young ones to think positively about Nigeria and her future greatness as a single entity.
According to Ms Nkem, the Foundation’s goal is “to re-orientate the general public on the need to cultivate and encourage factors that unify us and actively pursue positive social change wherever we find ourselves”. She added that “it is in this vein that the members of the HUT Foundation launched their school visitation programme, a measure to ensure the coming generation is taught positive tenets that will bring about a more progressive Nigeria.”
Earlier, while welcoming the Executive Director and her team, the Proprietress of JIP Heritage Academy, Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Imaji commended the NGO for its patriotic mission stressing that it is important to note the timeliness of the message of HUT foundation against the background of the current realities of the country as they concern its unity and stability. During the visit, members of the HUT Foundation carried out a sensitization programme during which they had access to over 60 students ranging from primaries 3, 4, and 5. The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Blessing Uche assisted in moderating the interactive session by guiding the students on how to maximize the gains of the sensitization programme.
The Foundation’s message of tolerance and celebration of our diversity was the focus of the visit. The students were given short educative lessons on the importance of being good citizens by looking out for one another and being non-discriminatory.  Members of the HUT Foundation also conducted an interactive session where the students were taught the difference between empathy and apathy along with vivid examples the students will find easy to remember and apply. . The HUT Foundation is a non-profit organization that is geared towards building a more unified Nigeria where citizens respect and celebrate each other’s ethnic, religious, and gender differences.  During the visitations students of secondary and primary schools are given short straightforward lessons that will help kill poisonous biases and foster a true sense of nationhood in their hearts. The Foundation’s motto for the project goes thus: “We create a better tomorrow by planting seeds of hope today.”
