Tinubu’s alleged COVID-19 related illness: His son, media aide deny reports

Amid numerous reports that APC chieftain and former Governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been hospitalised in Paris, France, after contracting the dreaded corona virus disease (COVID-19), his media aide, Tunde Rahman and son, Seyi Tinubu have risen to debunk reports as false.

However, while Rahman did not state the country where Tinubu presently is, Seyi disclosed that his father was in Britain to take the corona virus vaccine.

Rahman in his own statement said it is customary for the APC national leader to travel abroad at this time of the year in order to relax and re-strategise for the New Year.

The media aide stated: “This story is inaccurate. Asiwaju is healthy and does not have COVID-19. He took his annual trip and as part of the preparation for the trip he took a COVID-19 test which was negative.

“Since the advent of the pandemic, Asiwaju has always done his level best to observe, as strictly as humanly possible, all government advice and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus and to keep himself and those around him safe from harm.

“This has not changed. Shortly before Christmas, he indeed travelled out of Nigeria for his annual holiday. This is something he does each year to give himself a chance to rest and reflect on the year just passed while also preparing for the challenges and opportunities of the one to come. There will be no further comment on this story from our office,” Rahman added.

On his part, Seyi Tinubu debunked reports that his father tested positive for COVID-19 and was receiving treatment in France.

Reacting, Seyi in a post via his Instastory, he stated that his father had done the COVID-19 test 15 times and all the tests have returned negative.

According to him, his father is currently in the UK taking a vaccine instead.  On the allegation that his father was seriously ill, he said:

“That’s a lie from the pit of hell because my father is very ok neither does he have the virus.

“If you must know he has done the COVID-19 test 15 times, each time he travels and mingles with many people though he always wore a face mask.

“He is currently in London taking a vaccination and there’s no iota of truth in the false information being shared,” he wrote.
